Our Infectious Media ‘Pathways’ series of interviews aims to highlight the career options available within the business. In our first interview, Rosie Shimell, Head of People, speaks to Rachael Morris, about how she became Infectious Media’s Optimisation & Insight Director.

  • Software Engineer - ETL

    You'll be joining a cross-functional team responsible for software development and cloud infrastructure management. The team deals with over 30 billion events a day over multiple datacentres across the world and a rich ETL repository driving third party integrations and periodic tasks. You'll spend your time on the team ensuring reliability and performance throughout our entire stack, with the authority to make design changes and improve code where you see fit.

    About you: 
    • You're comfortable with Python (we're looking for over a year of professional experience),
    • You're confident with Linux and the command line.
    • You're keen to work with large scale production systems which span the globe (3 datacentres consuming over 9000 GB of RAM, peak Kafka throughput of 1 million messages per second).
    • You're looking to apply best practises of software engineering in development and operations.
    • You never say no to learning.
    You'll do: 
    • Develop software - stream processors, a large collection of internal ETL tasks, projects assisting the dev and analytics teams, event logging modules, and more.
    • Learn infrastructure management - writing Salt states, updating our Terraform provisioning automation, working with Google Cloud Platform, running services on our Mesos cluster.
    • Instrument the infrastructure to provide the team with situational awareness.
    • Help ensure we meet our internal SLOs for services.

  • Account Director

    The Account Director is a pivotal role at Infectious Media. Reporting to a Client Partner, you'll be tasked with managing one of our top clients, helping to lead strategy that delivers performance. You will also be managing a team team responsible for delivering and optimising campaigns. Our ideal candidate will have experience in digital display or programmatic at an agency, advertiser or DSP.

    Here's what we'd like you to do:

    • Lead a team of account managers and execs to plan and deliver outstanding campaigns for your clients
    • Be the ‘internal client’ –  Ask questions and challenge the teams and status quo in order to be confident we are delivering the very best work
    • Build strong relationships with senior clients based on mutual trust and respect and a consistently high standard in all client facing activities
    • Identify and resolve potential issues and blockages before they become critical
    • Drive forward the client strategy and be accountable for the delivery of it
    • Be seen as a trusted advisor to clients on all aspects of Programmatic media buying within the broader (digital) marketing context
    • Set client expectations and work to ensure we deliver to or above them
    • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of agreed client requirements; reports, calls etc.
    • Identify and nurture talent within your team. Encourage knowledge sharing and personal and professional development, leading by example.
    • Deliver accurate spend and performance forecasting for clients and business
    • Spot the opportunity to pitch to existing clients on new products and platforms and develop the strategy to make it a reality
    • Support the new business team providing strategic direction and resource

  • Campaign Executive

    Infectious Media is looking for skilled, numerate and enthusiastic individuals who want to kick off their careers in advertising to join our Campaign Activation team. Since its founding in 2008, Infectious Media has remained a leading voice within the programmatic advertising industry, with cutting edge technology, great clients and some of the most talented people in the market. But what is programmatic advertising? In essence, it is the automated delivery of targeted advertising to consumers. It relies on smart people overseeing enormous amounts of data to make sure we are doing our best work for our clients, which is where the Campaign Activation team come in. Campaign Executives are the ones who actually deliver all of our client’s campaigns, making sure we carry out the plans agreed with our clients correctly and with an eye to delivering concrete results. This requires an enormous amount of attention to detail, a studious mindset and a willingness to get involved with complex problems at speed. Beyond that, you’ll contribute to client relationships, help evolve our technology (built in house) and deliver improvements in efficiency across the business. No previous experience is necessary, just an inquiring mind, a good grasp of numbers and a willingness to learn.

    Here's what you'll do:
    • Manage and own campaigns, making key decisions about how to improve our targeting to produce the best possible performance

    • Put together a weekly summary of the actions you've taken, so the account team can share these with the client, explaining your choices and the impact on the campaign

    • Sit in on client calls, providing additional detail and background where needed

    • Be the go-to person for clients

    You'll already be:
    • Numerate

  • Senior HR Manager / Head of HR

    As a fast-paced and innovative service and technology business our most valuable asset is our people. Defining and implementing an effective People strategy, and running efficient HR operations is therefore key to our business success, and we are looking for an experienced HR professional to lead our People team as our Snr HR Manager or Head of HR, and to partner with our managers across the business to deliver great results. The Snr HR Manager/Head of HR remit is an exciting and far-reaching one, working closely with all levels within the business. This role will work with the Executive team and Heads of Departments to develop and implement a people strategy which attracts, retains and develops a highly-engaged team with a focus on performance, personal development, wellbeing and company values. The individual will also take an active role in delivering a comprehensive HR service to the business, ensuring appropriate policies and processes are in place, compensation and benefits are regularly reviewed and market competitive, learning and development is effective, and where relevant personally advising on employment matters and providing best practice recommendations to managers. The role will report into the Commercial Operations Director, form part of the Senior Management team and manage a team of 2 people.

    Key responsibilities

    • Work closely with senior management team to advise and develop effective global HR solutions and strategies in alignment with the organisational goals

    • Establish and ensure an effective and cost-efficient HR service delivery, implementing outstanding process, procedure and project management

    • Manage the People team to include Recruitment Manager and HR/Office Coordinator;

    • Oversee and manage payroll, contracts, and all administration related to our employees

    • Own the relationships with our HR suppliers, including healthcare, pensions, insurance, and HR software providers

    • Provide the organisation with meaningful insights to enable effective planning, decision-making and improvement

    • Work with Marketing to build a strong employer brand, to attract new, and motivate existing IM talent

    • Deliver a Learning & Development programme to develop highly skilled and motivated teams

    • Maintain the company’s culture and formulate the employee experience with the aim of motivating and engaging our workforce

    • Constantly seek ways to improve employee retention including, but not limited to, regularly reviewing our remuneration, rewards, benefits and wellbeing initiatives

    • Train, coach and support managers to manage people effectively and to establish positive employee relations

    • Advise on employee relations matters to ensure positive outcomes


    This is what you'll have done already
    • The successful candidate will have already held an HR Manager, or Senior HR Manager level role, and have an appetite to  take on a broader role with a lot of autonomy, or to step up into a Head of HR role. Or you may already hold a Head of  role in a small to medium-sized business.  Your experience will preferably be in a media or technology business that has experienced significant scaleup, or a similar fast-paced environment.   You will be fully up to speed with current employment legislation and minimum CIPD qualified, or equivalent.   You will be a great communicator who applies a solutions-focussed approach to problem solving. A team player, you will relish the challenge of engaging with team members from the Executive team to new recruits to create a first-class work culture.


  • Ad Ops Manager

    The Ad Operations team are responsible for liaising between advertisers and various teams to ensure timely delivery of display and social media ad campaign setup. Ad Operations will oversee the technical implementation. The team are responsible for the end to end process of pixel creation, trafficking and managing the technical onboarding process for new clients. The AdOps Manager will influence innovation and streamline the Ad Operations process to ensure executional excellence. They will work in tandem with the Senior AdOps Manager to serve as the escalation point for troubleshooting, testing, and implementation of Ad Operations.

    Key responsibilities include:
    • Owning / acting as AdOps rep in key meetings: i.e. AdOps weekly, process health check, employee forum, Adloox bi-weekly.

    • Working with Activation ensuring our Brand Safety solution is maintained and developing in-line with the industry.

    • Spearheading the creation and implementation of operational procedure and best practices, across multiple teams when onboarding new clients.

    • Creating, developing and maintaining Ad Operations processes, best practices and training documentation.

    • Ensuring procedures are adhered to and addressing any problems or proposed changes to all relevant teams.

    • Maintaining collaborative working relationships with internal staff and clients.

    • Conducting performance reviews (appraisals) to encourage, motivate and improve staff performance.

    • Organising team socials and finding ways to maintain/boost team morale.

    • Being involved in team hiring processes and new team member training.

    • Ensure all AdOps collateral is updated and available on the wiki.

    This is what you'll have done already:
    • The successful candidate will have experience in Ad Operations and have an understanding of the digital and social landscape. Ideally you would have worked with tools such as Google stack, DCM and DBM. Having an understanding of tag management tools such as Ensighten and Google Tag Manager, as well as mobile tracking platforms are desirable, but not essential.

      The ideal candidate must have/be:

      • Highly proficient in understanding of ad serving technology.

      • Previous experience working in Ad Operations.

      • Comfortable working with ambiguity and changing situations.

      • High level of resilience and tenacity required – must be able to deal with challenge from across the business whilst maintaining a positive and proactive style.

      • Delivering as an individual as well as motivating your immediate team.

      • An excellent understanding of the advertising technology landscape.

      • Good attention to detail.

      • A great communicator.
